You probably already know that the best way to avoid respiratory infections spread by droplets is excellent hand hygiene. In addition to washing your hands, it is also important to maintain physical distance from the sick and to avoid touching your face when in public places.
During the coronavirus epidemic, many people have acquired disinfectant hand sanitizers, which are a great way to clean hands when washing with soap and water is not possible. Soap is always the number one option, with hand sanitizer as a good supplement.
In soap washing, the foam and mechanical scrubbing remove pathogens and dirt from the skin, which are then rinsed down the drain with water. Soap is particularly effective against the coronavirus because it destroys the virus’s fatty envelope!
Washing your hands should take a little time to ensure proper cleaning. A quick rinse is not enough; for thorough handwashing, it is recommended to spend at least 20 seconds.
- Lather your hands generously with soap. If your hands are very dirty, you can first remove most visible dirt with the soap foam, then rinse your hands and lather again.
- Use circular, scrubbing motions to clean palms, backs of hands, between fingers (including between the index finger and thumb), wrists, and thumbs. Scrub your fingertips against the palm of your other hand.
- Rinse your hands and dry them thoroughly with either disposable paper towels or a cloth hand towel. Everyone should have their own hand towel, and in public places, paper towels should be used.
Can I Use Bar Soap During The Epidemic?
Bar soap is an excellent product for daily handwashing. Sometimes people wonder if bar soap is hygienic, but rest assured. Bacteria, viruses, or molds do not thrive on bar soap when used and stored correctly.
True soap is slightly alkaline, with a pH typically around 9-10. Bacteria, viruses, and molds do not thrive on an alkaline surface; they prefer a more neutral environment, with a pH between 6 and 8. Therefore, pathogens cannot flourish on the surface of an alkaline bar soap, and you can safely use bar soap even during an epidemic.
Bar soap should also be stored on a surface where water does not stagnate. The best soap storage surfaces are slatted holders or soap dishes with holes at the bottom to allow water to drain away. Microbes thrive in standing water, so it is particularly important for bar soap to dry between uses. On a ventilated surface, soap dries very quickly. Proper storage also makes the soap last longer in use.
When you wash your hands with bar soap, you can also quickly rinse the soap under running water at the end, ensuring the surface of the soap is cleaned.
In Flow Cosmetics' range, you will find many excellent bar soaps that you can use for both body and hands. Soaps made from high-quality vegetable oils do not dry out the skin and help keep hands healthy, even with frequent washing.

P.S. Remember to moisturize your hands well. For example, in the evenings, do an intensive treatment with Marigold Butter calendula cream. Apply a thick layer of cream to your hands, put on cotton gloves, and let it work. You can find Marigold Butter here.
