Get Rid of Lice Naturally - The ABC of Natural Lice Repellents

Eroon täistä luonnollisesti! - Täiden luonnonmukaisen karkottamisen ABC

Lice are unfortunately a common issue for many families, especially as the school and daycare seasons begin. That’s why it’s good to know a few things about natural lice prevention.

Children's bodies, still in the growth phase, are particularly sensitive to the effects of chemicals and other substances. For this reason, it’s best to tackle lice with as few synthetic substances as possible. No insecticides on the little ones’ skin!

Traditional lice shampoos rely on biocides, but there are actually lice strains that are already resistant to these chemicals.

For this reason, it's better to repel lice without medications by suffocating them – which can be easily done with natural oils! The following instructions are suitable for older children, around 6 years and older. For younger children, the amount of essential oils in the instructions should be halved. For the very youngest (under 2 years), treatments should be done without essential oils; for example, a baby's hair can be treated with just coconut oil and combing.

Lice Prevention

How to do it: Drop a few drops of tea tree oil onto a hairbrush and brush the hair. Repeat every couple of days.

Tips:

  • Keep long hair tied back and cut short hair as short as possible. Lice do not thrive in very short hair.
  • Mix tea tree essential oil into liquid shampoo or conditioner. A suitable dose is about 10 drops per 100 milliliters of shampoo.

How to Make a Lice Prevention Spray

Prepare a solution in a spray bottle that you can spray into hair daily to prevent lice infestation. Remember to refresh the mixture every few weeks to keep it fresh. Always shake the spray before use to ensure the essential oils mix well. The spray has a strong scent but it dissipates quickly from the hair.

Getting Rid of Lice and Nits

  1. Start the treatment by applying the treatment oil mixture (recipe above) thickly and thoroughly into the hair. Cover the hair with a shower cap or plastic wrap and leave it preferably overnight. If this is not possible, leave the mixture in the hair for at least 3 hours. After the exposure time, wash the hair several times with shampoo to remove all the oil.
  2. Spray the hair with the apple cider vinegar solution and comb the hair in small sections with a lice comb. Carefully remove all nits.
  3. Dry the hair with a hairdryer (lice do not tolerate heat). For an effective treatment, you can also use a flat iron. Do this in small sections, moving from the roots to the tips to destroy any remaining nits.
  4. Repeat the oil treatment 8 days later.
  5. REMEMBER! Repeat the lice combing every day for several days.

Regular combing is crucial to remove all nits. The most common reason for lice recurrence is careless combing or forgetting to comb altogether. Remember to clean the comb thoroughly between uses!

TIP! The flat iron treatment can also be repeated between treatments.

We hope these tips help everyone battling lice!
