Identify Your Skin Type
To keep our skin as healthy and radiant as possible, it's important to care for it according to its type.
Skin types are divided into four different groups
- Normal
- Dry
- Oily
- Combination
When buying skincare products, you'll notice that there are products available for all skin types.
But what if you don't know your own skin type?
Visiting a cosmetologist is the best way to determine your skin type, but if a visit to the cosmetologist doesn't fit your wallet right now, don't worry. With a simple test, you can easily find out!
Cleanse your face in the morning with your favorite rinse-off cleansing product. Afterward, don't apply anything to your face for 2-4 hours because this is where you'll see how your skin reacts and determine your skin type.
The easiest time to do the test is on the weekend or when you're not going anywhere.
With normal skin, you won't feel any tightness or oiliness on your skin; instead, your skin feels overall healthy. A good pampering for your skin is FLOW's best-selling product, Organic Rose Water, which is suitable for all skin types.
If your skin feels tight or starts flaking, then you have dry skin. (Dry skin can also itch, but at this point, you may start considering whether it's even atopic dermatitis. Confirm with your doctor.) Treating dry skin requires moisturizing products and thicker creams. An excellent moisturizing product is Arctic Beauty Oil. The serum strengthens the skin, increases elasticity, and makes the skin smooth and soft. Dry skin benefits greatly from serums, especially oil-based ones.
Oily skin starts to produce oil all over the face, and it's common for it to appear shiny throughout the day. Oily skin should be treated with deep cleansing products, and lightweight creams or gels are recommended for moisturizing. A good cleansing product for oily skin from FLOW is the Detox Soap, and for moisturizing, the light Blueberry Moisturizer is recommended.
Lastly, combination skin. Did you know that combination skin is the most common skin type in Finland? This is due to the harsh climate variations. Common for combination skin is dryness in the cheek area, an oily T-zone, and surface dryness.
Combination skin is the most challenging skin type to care for, but the tip is to listen to your skin's needs (applies to all skin types!). If you have dry cheeks, moisturize with thicker products, while lighter products are sufficient for oilier areas. pH-balancing products, such as toners, are also recommended. Lingonberry Bright Enzyme Mask is also a great addition to your weekly skincare routine. It contains bentonite clay, which keeps oily areas in check, while the Arctic berries keep dry skin areas bright and elastic. The enzyme mask also exfoliates dead skin cells from the surface, which can be a constant problem for combination skin due to surface dryness. For moisturizing, Rosehip Oil is perfect for combination skin, as rosehip oil aims to balance sebum production on all skin areas.
What about sensitive skin? Every skin type can be sensitive, which is why it's often not classified as a skin type. Sensitive skin is more of a characteristic and manifests itself differently in everyone. The most common symptoms of sensitive skin are redness, irritated skin, or even stinging or skin sensitivity to heat. You can read more about sensitive skin here!
